Writing the Prisoner, His Family & Authorities

Picture
IPU also encouraged participants to write to the prisoner’s family.  Two separate half sheets of paper were included in the Informational Booklet.  One sheet (below) was blank for the program participant to write to the family of the political prisoner.  The other sheet (to the left) was a form letter to the South African Council of Churches (SACC) asking them to forward the letter to the family.  SACC told IPU that they received many letters from Bracelet Program participants.  Some participants’ letters were even smuggled into Robben Island and letters from prisoners smuggled out and mailed to program participants.
