International Defence and Aid Fund (IDAF)
International Defence and Aid Fund for Southern Africa had its headquarters in London, but established committees/offices in nine other countries. Affiliated committees of IDAF existed in Britain, Canada, India, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, and the United States. International Defence and Aid Fund for Southern Africa had the following objectives:
IDAF had a broad publication program of books, visual materials and pamphlets, which were distributed world-wide as a means of meeting their third objective. In addition, Focus, their newsletter was published six times a year. It's aim was to keep international opinion informed about repression in southern Africa, in support of the call for the release of all political prisoners in South Africa and Namibia.
- To aid, defend, and rehabilitate the victims of unjust legislation and oppressive and arbitrary procedures;
- To support their families and dependents; and
- To keep the conscious of the world alive to the issues at stake.
